Jared Lee Loughner erkänner skuld för dådet i Arizona förra året

Dådet i Oak Creek, Wisconsin är det senaste av en rad dödsskjutningar i USA. 2011 var dock massakern i Tucson, Arizona den mest uppmärksammade, där sex personer mördades på ett kampanjevent med kongresskvinna Gabrielle Giffords som själv sköts men överlevde och återhämtade sig på ett smått mirakulöst sätt. Gärningsmannen hette Jared Lee Loughner, som idag bekände sig skyldig till morden - vilket innebär att han inte behöver någon rättegång och heller inte riskerar dödsstraff. Däremot döms han till livstids fängelse utan möjlighet till benådning, något NBC News här rapporterar om:

Obamas Justitieminister Eric Holder kommenterade också domen och beslutet att inte försöka ge Loughner dödsstraff:

"It is my hope that this decision will allow the Tucson community, and the nation, to continue the healing process free of what would likely be extended trial and pre-trial proceedings that would not have a certain outcome," Attorney General Eric Holder said in a statement. "In making the determination not to seek the death penalty, I took into consideration the views of the victims and survivor families, the recommendations of the prosecutors assigned to the case, and the applicable law."
