Ny vändning i Wisconsin: David Prosser nu i stor ledning

Det rapporterades igår natt att domarvalet i Wisconsin slutade med att utmanaren JoAnne Kloppenburg hade fått dryga 200 röster mer än sittande domare David Prosser. Ett resultat som fick Kloppengburg att deklarera seger och som förmodligen också skulle ha lett till krav på omräkning.

Nu har dock ett nytt besked kommit: ett fel gjordes som innebar att rösterna från staden Brookfield inte kom med i de siffror som rapporterades till Associated Press. Med dessa röster inräknade så är resultatet annorlunda och den konservative David Prosser har då en ledning på 7,500 röster.

"This is not a case of extra votes or extra ballots being found," sa Kathy Nickolaus, representant för Waukesha-distriktet. "This is human error, which I apologize for."

Såvida inget annat distrikt också lyckats med bedriften att rapportera fel så är det troligaste att resultatet kvarstår och Prosser kommer då att vinna. Denne släppte vid beskedet om ledning följande meddelande:

"I'm encouraged by the various reports from the county canvasses," Prosser said in a statement that did not specifically mention the Waukesha County change. "Our confidence is high, and we will continue to monitor with optimism, and believe that the positive results will hold. We've always maintained faith in the voters and trust the election officials involved in the canvasing will reaffirm the lead we've taken."

Tabben har dock fått liberala grupper att misstänka ugglor i mossen.

"There is a history of secrecy and partisanship surrounding the Waukesha County Clerk and there remain unanswered questions," sa Scot Ross, ledare för den liberala gruppen One Wisconsin Now.

Delstatsregeringens Accountability Board, som ser över Wisconsins val förklarade dock att man skulle undersöka allt:

"We will conduct our own review of issues because we want to make sure that we are tracking every entry she made into our system," Kennedy said. "We're concerned when data is missing from a total. We'd like to make sure there is much better communication between their office and our office."

Det mesta tyder dock på att David Prosser trots allt kommer att vinna. Vilket är bra i mer än ett avseende. Prosser har förklarat att det hela inte var ett politiskt val, men många tror likväl att han kommer att ha lättare för att godkänna guvernör Scott Walkers anti-fackföreningslag än JoAnne Kloppenburg.
