Vänstern har kastat Cindy Sheehan under bussen

Cindy Sheehan gjorde häromåret sig själv känd som krigsmamman som förlorat sin son i Irak och som därefter ivrigt och beslutsamt bestämt sig för att viga resten av sitt liv till att få "ockupationerna" av Irak och Afghanistan att upphöra. Det var redan då svårt att inte undgå att se en sörjande moder någonstans där bakom den skränande anti-krigsfasaden, vars handlingar baserades mer på känslor än politiska principer. Sheehan blev dock snabbt en uppmärksammad media-ikon för den anti-krigsdemonstrerande vänstern inom det Demokratiska partiet.

Med tiden blev dock Sheehan besviken på Demokraterna, som hon inte alls ansåg var lika starka anti-krigsaktivister som hon själv var. Och Demokraterna blev med tiden också less på henne - inte minst när hon i valet förra året vågade utmana det Demokratiska partiets självutnämnda drottning (nä, inte Hillary Clinton) Nancy Pelosi. Naturligtvis vann Sheehan inte över Pelosi som fortfarande är Representanthusets taleskvinna (och som, om Obama och Biden skulle gå vilse tillsammans i skogen, skulle bli landets president - om det vore värre än Biden som president är dock förstås den stora frågan).

Sheehan förlorade dock mer än så. Efter valet av Obama tynade anti-krigsaktivismen inom partiet. I juni i år höll Sheehan en protest, med ca 50 anghängare - men inte utanför Vita Huset där nationens Överbefälhavare med ett arabiskt mellannamn bor, utan utanför tidigare president Bushs nya hus i Dallas. Pam Meister skriver i en artikel på PajamasMedia:

"About 50 people joined Sheehan at a protest outside of Bush’s Dallas home in June, but few beyond local media noticed. Why Dallas? Quoth Sheehan:

We’re not at the White House because it takes a ton of money to get there, and there’s a depression caused by the guy who lives down that street.

No mention of Obama’s hand in our current economic downturn? Color me surprised. Yet I have to wonder if the reason for “no money” has less to do with the current economic climate and more to do with left-wing groups no longer wishing to finance her protest junkets in Washington, D.C."

Nästa vecka ämnar dock Sheehan protestera mot krigen vid Martha’s Vineyard där Obama tänker spendera tiden tillsammans med sin familj. Frågan är dock om någon kommer att bry sig?

Meister citerar en artikel av John Hinderaker vid Powerline, som skriver:

"Now that George Bush is no longer president, opposing the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan has dropped to dead last on the priorities of American leftists, like those who gathered for “netroots nation” last week. It is telling that only a few cranks, like Cindy Sheehan, haven’t gotten the message that, now that Barack Obama is president, war is OK. We can all ponder, I guess, what this tells us about the left."

Meister själv skriver sedan:

"No need to ponder. Move over, anti-war protesters, there’s a new game in town: the left’s new cause célebré is to get socialized medicine pushed through. The plight of the soldiers they said they cared so much about a mere three or four years ago has been abandoned for the all-important task of expansion of government and the nanny state. Priorities are priorities and Cindy Sheehan seems to have been left off the memo’s distribution list. I suppose, though, that she should be given credit for consistency — I mean, we haven’t heard Harry Reid tell us lately that the “war is lost.”

Like a child star, Sheehan has gone from being the center of attention to standing around wondering where all the cameras went. The moral to this story? Beware high pedestals, because the fall from grace can be a doozy."
