Utrikesminister Hillary Clinton sa idag att USA vill samarbeta med alla parter för att åstadkomma fred mellan Israel och Palestina - men för att samtal ska hållas med Hamas så måste dessa acceptera kraven för sådana; att ta avstånd från våld, acceptera Israels rätt att existera och respektera tidigare slutna avtal innan de själva kom till makten.
"We are looking to work with all of the parties to try to help them make progress toward a negotiated agreement that would end the conflict," sa Clinton men fortsatte att säga om Hamas:
"Hamas knows the conditions. They must renounce violence, they must recognize Israel, they must agree to abide by prior agreements. We are not able to look into the future to see whether there will be changes on the part of Hamas that [would] meet our conditions but, you know, certainly that would be a clear path for them to follow,"
Det tål verkligen att hoppas på fred - däremot ska mycket hopp till, om Hamas ska acceptera de villkoren - mer än på sin höjd som en temporär fred under vilken tid de kan förbreda sig för nya attacker.
