Al Qaidas andreman al-Zawahri hånade USA:s tillträdande president Barack Obama i en video, och kallade denne för en "house negro" - en person som alltid passar upp sin herre. Obama var, enligt Zawahri också en person med ett nytt amerikansk ansikte, men ett hjärta fyllt av hat. Han menade också att Obama var en rasförrädare gentemot ädla svarta amerikaner som Malcolm X. New York Times citerar Zawahri:
“And in you and in Colin Powell, Rice and your likes, the words of Malcolm X (may Allah have mercy on him) concerning ‘House Negroes’ are confirmed
En anti-terroristagent i Washington DC kommenterade Al Qaidas med följande ord:
“Al Qaeda’s way of dealing with the change that the election of black American president represented is to insist that nothing has changed,”
